Why did we make a double sided linen?

For one, we are driven to make objects we don't believe have been realized to their full potential. A napkin or tablecloth with two faces pushes a 2 dimensional surface into the 3 dimensional realm. It asks us to reconsider how we fold a textile, how it can sit on the body, how it falls and drapes with unexpected beauty. It multiplies the possibilities of the tabletop world. Our linens are made in Japan with a storied producer who brings traditional knowledge and innovative processes to their manufacturing.

The table linen patterns are designed by Molly Fitzpatrick, founder of home textile brand DITTOHOUSE. She has created textiles for major airlines, passenger trains, and companies. When Molly and TF founder Andrea Hill started the collaboration, they began by diving into Molly’s deep archive of patterns. Tortuga Forma’s signature products are a twist on familiar forms, When applying this to the language of patterns, Molly focused on classic typologies creating contemporary TF versions of the Stripe, Grid, Checker, and an abstract pattern we call the Comb.

The double-sided table linens are printed with a distinct design on the front and back. On each side, there is a scale shift in pattern and jewel toned colors vibrate in surprising combinations. Tortuga Forma linens are made in Japan with a storied producer who brings traditional knowledge and innovative processes to their manufacturing. Referencing furoshikis, bojagis and other wrapping cloths, the textiles are printed on 100% cotton shantung with a light woven texture and a luxurious touch. Double-sided dinner napkins launch on tortugaforma.co on June 11, followed by cocktail napkins in July. Tablecloths are in developmentand and will round out the collection this fall.

"I strive for my textile designs to have great visual activity. Oftentimes, an intentional secondary pattern emerges, color combinations pulsate, and lines create an optical reaction. When I achieve this visual response, I am celebrating the rhythms of life." - Molly Fitzpatrick
